DuPage County Historical Museum Receives $200,000 Donation

Members of the DuPage County Historical Museum Foundation accepted a $200,000 donation to help replace the roof and fund repairs to the Wheaton museum.  Daniel L. Goodwin, Chairman and CEO of The Inland Real Estate Group, Inc., presented the check at the DuPage County Board meeting on Tuesday, October 13th.

The DuPage County Historical Museum is operated as a facility of the Wheaton Park District but is owned by DuPage County.  It is dedicated to the collection and preservation of material documenting DuPage County's history.

Tuesday's donation came after a state grant was eliminated shortly after it was awarded to fund the project.  Members of the DuPage Historical Museum Foundation expressed their gratitude to Goodwin, who stepped in with a private donation.

“We have exhausted many avenues to fund needed repairs, including winning a state grant, which fell victim to the state budget crisis,” said DuPage County Board member Amy Grant, who also serves as a member on the Historical Museum Board.  She continued, “We are fortunate this need will not go unanswered, thanks to the leadership of Mr. Dan Goodwin.  I know I speak on behalf of the entire Historical Museum Foundation when I express my gratitude for this gift.”

“As a former teacher, I believe in the preservation of our history,” said Dan Goodwin.  He continued, “The funding for this building will help to ensure that the DuPage County Historical Museum will continue its mission teaching our youth the rich history of our County for many years to come.”

Work on the DuPage County Historical Museum is expected to begin within the next week.  The roof replacement will be completed in late November with interior work to be completed in the following months.  The total cost of the project is estimated at $450,000, with $200,000 being provided by Goodwin and the balance provided by the DuPage County Board.
