DuPage County Named Best County for Upward Mobility
DuPage County was named the top-rated county in the United States for upward mobility this week by American City and County magazine.
The magazine based the designation on the Harvard University Equality of Opportunity Project, whose findings were highlighted in a New York Times article in May 2015. As a result, American City and County Magazine cited DuPage as the best for earning potential, particularly for disadvantaged youth.
“We are honored that American City and County recognizes DuPage County as the best county in the nation in terms of upward mobility,” said County Board Chairman Dan Cronin. “We are proud to showcase DuPage as home to a thriving business community, with a well-educated workforce, safe streets, low unemployment, abundant and varied cultural amenities which make it an attractive place to live, work and raise a family. I am particularly proud of the way our residents come together when faced with a challenge and leverage our collective strengths to find thoughtful solutions. Dedication to family, neighbors and our community is a central focus and one we celebrate here in DuPage.”
DuPage County was the only county from Illinois or the Midwest to be named to the top 10.
County Board member Jim Healy (District 5 – Aurora, Naperville, Lisle), who is an active member of the National Association of County Officials, said this is a well-deserved recognition for the County. “This honor highlights everything taking place in DuPage County and what makes it a great place to live, work and raise a family” Healy said. “This honor is only made possible by our residents and everything they do for our communities.”
