DuPage County Stormwater Management Names Water Quality Grant Recipients

The DuPage County Stormwater Management Planning Committee voted Tuesday to approve the 2022 recipients of the County’s Water Quality Improvement Program grant. The Committee selected three projects countywide, all of which aim to improve the quality of DuPage’s streams and rivers.

“Over the years, this grant has helped to fund nearly 100 water quality projects countywide.” said DuPage County Stormwater Management Committee Chairman Jim Zay. “Further, DuPage County’s contribution has resulted in millions of dollars being spent to improve our waterways – from local, state and federal sources.”

In its 23rd year, the Water Quality Improvement Program grant awards up to 25 percent of funding for projects exhibiting a regional water quality benefit. DuPage County received five applications this year for projects totaling more than $6.5 million. The Stormwater Committee awarded more than $245,000 to this year’s recipients and projects, including:

  • Village of Carol Stream’s Klein Creek streambank stabilization;
  • Village of Downers Grove’s Mochel Drive water quality project; and
  • Village of Wood Dale’s Potter Street detention basin retrofit.

“In addition to being exceptional individual projects, they build upon work already completed locally,” added Zay. “For example, Carol Stream’s Klein Creek stabilization project is near the County’s Armstrong Park Reservoirs, which control flooding and improve water quality along Klein Creek. Together, we are greatly improving the health of that stream system.”
