DuPage County Plans Memorial Day Observances

DuPage County will host a ceremony in observance of Memorial Day at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, at the DuPage County Government Complex in Wheaton.

The ceremony will take place at the Veterans Memorial, located outside near the pond on the DuPage County Government Complex, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton. The memorial commemorates DuPage County residents who lost their lives in military conflicts at home and abroad beginning with the Black Hawk War in 1832 and continuing to the most recent engagements overseas.

The event will include the laying of the wreath by Gold Star families; a weapons salute by DuPage Honor Guard; and finally, the DuPage Honor Guard will retire the colors.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Auditorium of the 421 JTK Administration Building.

DuPage County has also relaunched its online Memorial Day portal. This portal will provide residents with a virtual way to celebrate those who gave their lives in service to their country. Residents can create an Honor Post dedicated to a friend or family member on the site. Once they submit that information, they can include a photo and written tribute on an interactive map. The website also features videos and educational information surrounding the Memorial Day holiday. To view the portal, visit www.dupagecounty.gov/memorial.

Additionally, DuPage County offices will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 30. County departments and services will reopen on Tuesday, May 31.
