The opportunity:

The Diagnostic Services Division of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court Department of Probation and Court Services is seeking a full-time psychologist with clinical training and experience in the area of forensic psychology. The 18th Judicial Circuit Court is a single county circuit (DuPage County) and is located in the northeast region of the state of Illinois just west of Chicago, with a population of over 900,000. The Circuit Court of DuPage County consists of 45 judges.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • The psychologist functions under the direction of the Chief Psychologist;
  • Completes court-ordered forensic psychological evaluations (often including psychological testing) for the criminal and juvenile courts, including with adult defendants, juvenile respondents and parents;
  • Referral issues include fitness to stand trial, sanity, conditional release of insanity acquitees, diagnosis and treatment recommendations, risk of violence, juvenile transfers, capacity to waive Miranda rights, and psychosexual evaluations;
  • Provides the Court with written reports including relevant opinions and recommendations;
  • Provides direct in-court expert testimony as required;
  • Works collaboratively and consults with Judges, attorneys, probation officers, and other Court officials and agencies;
  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision to psychologists and psychology graduate students as needed;
  • Maintains confidential records;
  • Other duties as required and/or requested.             

Requirements for this position include:

  • Completion of a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or related field
  • Possess an Illinois Clinical Psychologist License
  • Possess an Illinois Sex Offender Evaluator License, or be willing to obtain under supervision
  • 3 to 5 years forensic experience or equivalent
  • Strong writing proficiency and excellent assessment skills
  • Ability to pass a background investigation.
