Prepayment Plan Terms

Prepayment Plan Terms

The DuPage County Treasurer’s Tax Prepayment Plan has been established as a service to taxpayers to save voluntarily for their next tax payment and to facilitate timely payment of those taxes. Funds collected under this Plan shall be used for the sole purpose of paying property taxes assessed against the taxpayer’s parcel. Disbursement from the Plan will be made at the time the taxes are due and payable provided there are enough funds to satisfy the full installment amount.

Prepayment is defined as amounts specifically designated by a taxpayer as funds that should be held until a full installment of the taxes due is satisfied.  Taxpayers may also refer to a prepayment as a partial payment.  This Plan provides individual taxpayers with a way to "deposit" funds for future property taxes, plan their cash flows and make tax payments as "painless" as possible.

Your use of the DuPage County Treasurer's Prepayment Plan is subject to all terms and conditions contained below. Please read the following information carefully before proceeding, as your use of this Prepayment Plan constitutes your acknowledgment of and agreement to all of its terms and conditions.

General Information

With the Prepayment Plan, You May:

  • Pay by mail with a check made payable to the DuPage County Treasurer, 421 N. County Farm Rd., Wheaton, IL 60187
  • Pay in the Treasurer’s Office with cash, check, credit card or debit card.
  • Schedule internet payments through your bank online payment program.

With the Prepayment Plan, You May Not:

  • Make your payment at a local bank.
  • Withdraw funds once deposited.
  • Pay online through the DuPage County website.
  • Even if you are making prepayments, all balances must be paid in full prior to the Tax Sale. If there are not enough funds in your Plan when property taxes are due and payable, you must pay the difference between the full installment and the balance in your Plan before the Plan funds are applied to your taxes due.
  • Payments made after the installment due dates incur a state imposed 1.5% late fee per month. The late fee is calculated on the unpaid installment amount.

Notice of Denied Payment Requests

If payment is denied by your bank, you will be notified by U.S. mail that your payment request was rejected. Letters notifying that the payment attempt was rejected may take 7-10 business days to generate once the Treasurer's Office learns that the payment request was unsuccessful or the payment was denied by the bank.

Returned Transaction Fee Of $25.00

If your payment is returned to us "unpaid", your payment transaction will be cancelled and a returned item fee will be assessed in addition to late penalties, if applicable.

Taxpayer's Duty to Confirm Successful transfer of Funds

TAXPAYER'S DUTY TO CONFIRM SUCCESSFUL TRANSFER OF FUNDS
It is the duty and responsibility of the taxpayer to confirm with their own financial institution that the transfer of funds was successful.

Verification of Payment

It may take up to 5 business days to reflect a paid date on a parcel number once enough funds have been collected to pay an installment in the full amount. You can check on the payment status by calling our office at 630-407-5900.

Proof of Payment

If the Treasurer's payment records differ from the taxpayer's records, the final decision will be based on the Treasurer’s written, computerized and mechanized records regarding the transaction.
