Consumer-Owned Containers Guidance

Food and packaging/containers account for almost 45% of landfill materials in the US. In an effort to reduce this waste, Public Act 103-0524 was enacted by the IL General Assembly allowing consumer owned reusable containers to be filled at food establishments, if the establishment decides to allow them. There are some requirements to keep food safe, so make sure you review this document from the Illinois Department of Public Health for best practices when bringing your container or if you're thinking about allowing this at your food establishment.
