Internships With Public Defender

The DuPage County Public Defender's Office operates a volunteer internship program which provides the opportunity for college and law school students to assist investigators and/or attorneys with cases and meaningful work in the office. This program runs year-round.

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students generally assist in the investigations division. Assignments may include client interviews, communication with clients at the DuPage County Jail, and other investigative duties as assigned.

Law Students

1st Year Law Students

  • Interns may be assigned to a specific attorney or assist with trial preparation and research for all divisions: juvenile, misdemeanor, and felony.

Second and Third Year Law Students

Interns who qualify for a license under Supreme Court Rule 711 may try cases under the supervision of a licensed attorney, and assist in

  • Case Management
  • Client Relations
  • Courtroom Work
