Water Quality

Program Overview

The DuPage County Water Quality Program operates under the Stormwater Management Department to help municipalities and townships meet the requirements first set forth by the Clean Water Act of 1972, and which are administered through the national Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Centralizing compliance saves taxpayers millions of dollars and standardizes data throughout the county. Some specific activities of the Water Quality Program include Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination, community education and outreach, annual Water Quality Improvement Program Grants, a continuously updated storm sewer atlas, and spill response - among many others.

DuPage County partners with 41 municipalities and townships on meeting stormwater quality requirements through our ILR40 Permit from the IEPA. View the Water Quality Permit Documents for more information.
