Waste, Recycling and Green Initiatives

Environmental Division

Welcome to the Environmental Division section of the County's website where Waste, Recycling, and Green Initiatives are found. Our aim is to inform the public about environmental issues impacting their health, well-being and safety and provide recycling opportunities to both residents and businesses.

The categories in this section are full of great resources for identifying recycling and disposal locations, recycling/green events, and more.

Additionally, the County is a recognized leader in addressing environmental concerns. The 2011 Environmental Progress Report lists many of our accomplishments and ongoing programs. The County is proud of its green achievements and we will continue to be on the forefront of environmental issues.

Regional HHW Update

Due to a recent fire at the IEPA’s waste processing plant the Regional HHW Facility in Naperville will temporarily not be accepting the following items:

  • pesticides

  • asbestos materials
  • batteries (marine, sump pump and non-alkaline)
  • Household cleaners, drain openers and pool chemicals

A full list of what is and is not accepted is available at the Naperville HHW site. We will let you know when normal operations resume. Questions? Call 630-420-6095

Are you Recycling Right? Or are you Wishcycling?

DuPage County partnered with the Illinois Recycling Task Force to create a video about what should and should not go in your recycling bin.
