Sheriff - Principal Account Clerk

Hours: PART-TIME  Monday – Friday,  20 Hours a week

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping; performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs a high volume of bookkeeping tasks
  • Maintains accounts receivable and payable records
  • Assists with multiple fund account deposits
  • Provides information to and interacts with a variety of department supervisors; evaluates progress
  • Prepares expenditure and receipt reports on a periodic basis including necessary recaps, summaries, and reconciliations
  • Posts transfers, proves the accuracy of appropriations, and maintains necessary documentation
  • Maintains general ledger and prepares institution-type trial balance, balance sheet, and profit and loss statement
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

  • Bookkeeping and accounting principles and practices including their general application to governmental accounting
  • Current practices of office management including office systems, practices, procedures, and equipment
  • Practices relating to documentation of expenditures
  • Data processing as applied to financial recordkeeping
  • English language, grammar, and punctuation
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes

Skill in:

  • Installation of new accounting/bookkeeping procedures
  • Identifying problem areas
  • Analysis of financial data
  • Dealing effectively with others
  • Using computer hardware and software including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, etc.
  • Applying an acquired knowledge of procedures, rules, regulations and services applicable to the assigned office
  • Verbal and/or written communications

Ability to:

  • Operate modern office equipment
  • Exercise independent judgment on financial issues
  • Manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with department and division staff, other departments and others, such as vendors
  • Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations and statutory requirements
  • Convey excellent oral and written communication
  • Maintain confidential information.
