Veteran Mentor Coordinator- Contract Position

This is an Independent Contract position for the Probation & Court Services.

Schedule:  20-25 hours/week, day and evening hours, Monday- Friday

Compensation:  $30/hour

12-month contract reviewed annually. There are no benefits or travel reimbursements included with this assignment.

 The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Recruit, screen, select and train volunteer peer veteran mentors;
  • Work with veteran participants in the Veterans Treatment Court by providing peer support in the courtroom environment and community;
  • Assess peer mentor strengths to effectively match with program participants;
  • Oversight of all groups, services, and supervision of veteran mentors;
  • May participate or attend weekly team staffings and court hearings;
  • Creating and managing 501c(3) to raise funds to pay for extracurricular activities for veteran participants;
  • Coordinating and facilitating regularly scheduled meetings with veteran mentors to provide support and on-going training;
  • Networking and establishing relationships with community-based agencies including referrals for veteran-specific services and crisis intervention;
  • Ability to provide effective feedback and services to mentors and veteran participants;
  • Work with the data collection contractor to measure effectiveness.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Be a veteran of the United States military, reserve, or guard branches with an honorable discharge.as verified by DD214
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in the Behavioral Sciences or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Knowledge of Veterans Affairs treatment and ancillary services including substance abuse, mental health, housing and employment
  • Ability to take initiative and use good judgment
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to function independently without direction
  • Flexibility in scheduling including evenings hours
  • Pass a background investigation.
  • Maintain necessary insurance coverage:
    • Employers’ liability Insurance of at least $1,000,000 Worker’s Compensation Insurance in the statutory amount
