Two Venezuelan Migrants Charged with Burglary/Retail Theft from Oak Brook Macy's

November 26, 2023

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis announced today that charges have been filed against two men for allegedly stealing more than $750 worth of merchandise from the Oak Brook Macy’s store. Lenguieyer Guevara-Muro, 27 (d.o.b. 10/16/1996) and Jinder Moises Angulo-Aparicio, 20 (d.o.b. 4/3/2003), both of Venezuela, appeared at First Appearance Court this morning where Judge Anthony Coco granted the State’s motion to detain Lenguieyer Guevara-Muro pre-trial and denied the State’s motion to detain Jinder Moises Angulo-Aparicio pre-trial. Both men are charged with one count of Burglary (Class 2 Felony) and one count of Retail Theft (Class 3 Felony).

It is alleged that on November 25, 2023, at approximately 12:43 p.m., two men, later identified as Guevara-Muro, who was carrying a foil-lined bag with him, and Angulo-Aparicio, entered Macy’s, located at 1 Oakbrook Center, selected items of clothing totaling approximately $770.50 and put the merchandise in the bag. It is alleged that Guevara-Muro then took the bag with him and left Macy’s without paying for the items. It is further alleged that when loss prevention officers approached Guevara-Muro, he refused to stop. It is alleged that an Oak Brook police officer on patrol observed Guevara-Muro and asked him to stop walking, which Guevara-Muro refused to do. It is alleged that when the officer attempted to take Guevara-Muro into custody he resisted and had to be brought to the ground to be handcuffed. It is further alleged that Angulo-Aparicio left Macy’s a short time later and was taken into custody without incident.

“For the second day in a row, my office has filed charges against individuals from Venezuela accused of stealing merchandise from a retail store,” Berlin said. “As I have said before but bears repeating, as we are in the midst of the holiday shopping season, we will continue to do everything we can to protect our businesses and customers, and anyone who shoplifts will be arrested, charged and prosecuted. I commend the Oak Brook Police Department for their work in apprehending the two defendants in this case, as well as for their ongoing efforts in protecting our businesses and patrons. I thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Andrew Poncer and Anthony Raimondi for their work in securing charges against these two men.”

“We are saturating our retail areas with marked patrol officers and undercover officers to keep shoppers and business safe during this busy holiday shopping season,” Strockis said. “If you intend to come to Oak Brook to steal, you will be caught and arrested. I'd like to thank our officers for their continued pro-active policing efforts. I'd also like to thank State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his team for his assistance and guidance on this case.”

The next court date for Angulo-Aparicio is scheduled for December 18, 2023, for arraignment and the next court date for Guevara-Muro is scheduled for December 11, 2023, for arraignment. As a condition of his release, Angulo-Aparicio is prohibited from entering the Oak Brook Macy’s store.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendants’ guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
